Toothache
We know that toothaches and oral/mouth pain can be very distressing and disturb your sleep. Therefore, we set aside appointments for such emergencies and will always try to accommodate and see you on the same day. If you have any questions, please call us and we will advise you on how to manage the pain until you can come in to see us.
Dental Trauma
If your tooth has been knocked out, quickly give it a rinse under running tap water to remove any particles and place it back into the socket if you can. Otherwise, place the tooth in some milk and call our surgery immediately for an appointment. Time is of the essence so do not delay.
Children's Dentistry
We know that a child’s 1st dental visit can be scary (for both the child and the parent) so we ensure that the visit is as fun and relaxed as possible. Children should ideally start going to the dentist by 3 years of age as they will normally have all of their baby (deciduous) teeth by then and also to get them used to the setting as this can allay much of the fear.
Their 1st dental visit comprises of a quick screen to see if there are any early issues which may require monitoring or early treatment to reduce the severity of any such problems.
Gum Treatment
Gum disease is a common problem which is caused by the irritation from plaque and bacteria in your mouth. The signs and symptoms of gum disease range from bleeding gums, bad breath, and loose teeth.
When diagnosed early, these problems may be treated with minimal long term effects. However, if left untreated, it can lead to receding gums, gum infections and eventual loss of teeth.
Crown & Bridge
Crowns are single unit caps which wraps around the underlying tooth structure to give it extra strength. This may be required when the teeth are broken down, cracked, heavily filled or has had root canal treatment. Crowns can be made from many different materials depending on the condition and position of tooth in the mouth. In some circumstances, crowns are made for the front teeth to increase the strength and aesthetics of the teeth involved.
Bridges can be made if you have a gap between teeth (i.e. missing teeth). When you have a gap between teeth, we can place crowns on the adjacent teeth and attach a false tooth to fill the gap – we call this a bridge because the false tooth in the gap is attached to the adjacent crowns which act as a pole on each side.
Veneers
Veneers can be made to enhance the aesthetics of the front teeth. Whereas crowns wrap around the entire surface of a tooth, veneers only cover the front surface of the tooth – hence minimal reduction of the tooth.
Gaps between teeth, slight overlap, stains and irregularities of the front teeth can be masked with dental veneers.
In some circumstances, a combination of orthodontics treatment and veneers are recommended to achieve the better outcome.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium screws which are placed into the bone and can be used to replace missing teeth. The bone will form around the screw and form a very strong union with the screw. Once this has occurred, a porcelain crown is placed over the top to replace the missing teeth and it will feel and function like your natural tooth.
Teeth Whitening
There are many causes of staining and discolouration of teeth. Sometimes a scale and clean may be all you require but if you feel that that is inadequate, we can offer different options that are available so come in and see us and we will discuss which is the best option for you.
